We have the iron casting. This can come in the form of either gray iron or ductile iron casting. Gray iron is what is mostly used in industrial manufacturing. It is appreciated as both a strong and versatile kind of casting. It is through such features that there has been an increased popularity within the market. It is not hard to either test its quality or have it machined. This can easily be achieved even without involving any intrusive method. More than often, they will be designed in such a way that meets specific specifications. They are actually suited to be applied in a number of ways. In most cases, such will include items that seek to have a high strength to weight ratios. You will appreciate that they are much economical particularly when they have been produced in great volumes. Ductile iron casting is valued more especially in processes that call for additional strength. It is mostly used in instances where there is a higher wear resistance. You will note that it is quite cost effective in comparison to gray iron casting.
Then there is the aluminum casting. It is much appreciated due to its strength and versatility. It is quite an adaptable substance for anyone to work with. It has a very high corrosion resistance as well as thermal conductivity. It also has enhanced mechanical properties and strength even when under high temperatures. It is for this reason that it is used for both die and permanent casting. It can also be used on lost foam casting. Steel is known to have similar traits. It is more appreciated for use on parts that are likely to suffer more wear and tear. In most cases, steel is mixed with either iron or nickel so as to improve its heat resistance.
Copper is also great in metal casting. This is as a result of its improved electrical conductivity qualities. It is for this reason that most industries pick it for electrical components. It has both excellent malleability and great ductility. Its conduction of heat is unmatched. There are instances when it will be necessary for it to be mixed with zinc so that any internal cavity cannot be formed. You will also realize that zinc is also known for having a relatively low melting point.
